80 GB Sony Playstation 3's Vegas Invasion Perfect Attendance Drawings

The Vegas Invasion "Perfect Attendance" winners were drawn on October 27th at the Orleans Casino during the National Championship tournament.  Any player that had perfect attendance during either session one or two at any location had their name entered in the drawings.  The first drawing took place right before the final table of the Chamionship and the Session 1 winner was Vance Barta who qualified at Borrowed Bucks in Fargo, ND. Coincidentally, Vance was in Vegas playing in the Championship Event and had just busted out with only 2 tables remaining.  We decided to let Vance draw out the winner for Session 2 and he pulled out Robert Huseby who plays at the Audobon Liquor Store in Audubon, MN.  Both players will receive an 80GB Playstation 3 valued at $399 each.

2008 WSOP / National Championship Review

7 Players from all over the state of North and South Dakota went to Vegas on June 27th to participate in the "Destination Las Vegas" National Championship tournament.  The 25 person tournament was at the Orleans Casino and up for grabs was a $10,000 main event WSOP seat.  Unfortunately the seven Dakota players came up a little short, but still had the next day to look forward to. All 7 Dakota players played in the WSOP event #52 a $1,500 buy-in on Monday June 30th.

For more information on the trip and reports please click here National Championship Review

Several Local Players Cash in WSOP: Cody Slabaugh (Rugby native) nearly won a bracelet, placing runner up in a $1,500 NL Holdem event for $389,128. Cody also cashed in four other events.  Several other ND players have cashed as well, including Mitch Schock in two events for about $10,000. Kim Erfle cashed in the seven card stud event taking 23rd place for $3,640 Mark Berger who won the Dakota Poker Tour player of the year chopped 1st place at a Caesers event for $30,000.  Tom Dallman cashed in the seniors event taking 39th place for a nice $6,000 pay day as well.

North Dakota Championship Report

The North Dakota championship featured 115 of the best players in the state, with the top 5 earning a seat in the 2008 WSOP as well as a seat in the Free Poker Network national finals.

Thanks to Westside Sports Bar & Grill in Mandan and all the volunteers who helped make this a great event.

Here are the big winners (pictured left to right):

  • Ron Johnson - Deweys, Kindred
  • Dean Leingang - Silver Dollar, Mandan
  • Sean Egstad - The Bowler, Fargo
  • Lonnie Schwarz - VFW, Bismarck
  • Preston Sweeney - The Work Zone, West Fargo

Sean Egstad eliminated Art Ziemann on the bubble.  Art was the local favorite and for the 2nd time he just missed a trip to Las Vegas to play in the World Series of Poker (runner up to Jim Nelson in 2006).  Other players who made the final table included Tim Larson - M&J Saloon in West Fargo, Amy Smittle - Liquid Assets in Dickinson, Ryan Olson - Lariat Lounge in Wishek, and Rick Stine - Speedway in West Fargo.  Mason Whitmore had a great showing, placing in the top 20 and coming very close to following up his wife Joyce's huge win last year.

Report From The Bay 101

Live blog & photos from the 2008 Bay 101
Tournament hopes and dreams of cashing in on the $1 million first place prize for the poker league crew vanished at the end of day one of the main event.  The scene at the Bay 101 is a great experience, and definitely the most fan-friendly stop on the World Poker Tour that we have seen.
