Take 10 with Bubba Dan
Vol 1 #1
Welcome to the first in a series of interviews I will be doing with members of the FreePokerLeague. The FPL has many different and unique members, and I am going to interview some members so you can get to know them better.
I am calling these interviews “Take 10 with Bubba Dan” because I will be asking everyone the same 10 questions. So be thinking of how you would answer them, because I may be asking you.
I picked TennSlim as my first victim, er subject, because he has been around FPL a long time, as well as being a former League champion. And because he is a great poker player, a gentleman at the tables, and one of my best buds.
1-Tenn, how long have you been playing on-line poker?
I started playing on-line poker about 5 or 6 years ago. I played at World Play with Mauidudi and a nice circle of friends. At World Play, the dealer named the game and we were allowed to reserve seats, so we always had a great time playin, till they shut the damn thing down. I started playin Hold-em about 2 years ago, then along came that poke and hope game Omaha hi-lo.
2-How many poker sites do you have downloaded, and how many of those do you play on a regular basis?
I have 8 or 9 sites downloaded on my machine. Only the ones with cash balances are open. I actively play on probably 5 of them.
3-Which one is your favorite poker site and why?
My favorite site to play is Jet Set. Familiarity breeds success and I know most of the players on Jet Set, so I naturally have the most fun on that site.
4-Do you prefer multi-table tournaments, ring games, or sit and go’s?
I prefer multi-table tourneys. Give me 6000 people in a tourney any day, lol!
5-Besides No Limit Hold-em, what is your favorite poker game?
My favorite game is the game I was raised on, 5 card stud.
6-Besides the obvious high poker pairs and Big Slick, what is your favorite hand to play?
I don’t have a favorite hand, every hand is a winner and every hand is a loser.
7-What advice do you have for players just starting out in on-line poker?
My advice to any new on-line players is Patience, Patience, Patience!
8-What is the biggest mistake you most often see players make in on-line tournaments?
The biggest mistake I see made is the lack of patience in some players. Never a game goes by that somebody isn’t gettin on somebody’s case for bein slow, or playin a hand that hits and shouldn’t have played in the first place. It seems like people think there is a book that tells everybody what hands to play in certain situations. Well I haven’t found that book yet and as long as the human factor is involved in poker, you’re gonna continue to see some weird hands played in some strange situations. But that is the beauty of poker. “How could you call with that?” is my favorite statement to see at a table. Cracks me up every time.
9-Besides Bubba Dan (of course!), who do you consider one of the best on-line players?
Well after thinkin about this for a little while, I have come to the conclusion that I would have to say EdStar would be the one I choose as one of the better on-line players that I know.
10-What do you do when you are not playing on-line poker? Tell us a little about yourself.
Well let’s see, I am 52, married, have 4 kids and 9 grand kids. I am a veteran and proudly served in the Air force during the Viet Nam war. That is why you see the 58,266 next to my name at all times. That number represents the number of brothers and sisters who never made it home alive from Viet Nam. I worked with computers in the Air Force, then got out and became a professional bowler. I broke my back surfin in Hawaii and had to quit bowlin for a while so I came back stateside and have worked in a General Motors plant, drove semi’s across this big ol country of ours, became a stone mason and laid brick and stone for over 10 years, and now I make custom furniture for people who like real wood instead of pressed paper furniture. I am an easy goin, laid back individual with a hair trigger temper and a no fear attitude. I will back my friends to the end and will NEVER squeal on a friend. That last one is an inside joke. LOL. I would like to close this interview by saying Thank you Bubba for choosin me as your first interview, although I know you wanted to be the first. Again Thank you for your time and I shall see y’all at the tables. TennSlim-FPL-FRHH-58,266.
Thank you Tenn for a very enlightening interview. I appreciate it bud.
I hope you all enjoyed this, and I am going to be doing a new interview every few weeks, so stay tuned. Thanks, Bubba. |
