Let's say you flop the old pair and flush draw, or the old 2 overs and an open-end straight draw, etc., and even if your opponent has the better hand you know that you are 50/50. Do you push it? I usually use this opportunity to stab at the pot. And if I get called, I know that, if I hit my hand, which is half the time, it will most likely hold up.
If you can get a good read on your opponent and know that you're 50/50, how do you play it, on a short-stack, a big stack, or even an average one, assuming you are heads-up. Do you play it safe and call it down, or do you push the issue and force your opponent to make a decision?
I will usually throw my chips around on these, it's been very effective for me. I find strength in this play because it's an opportunity to take it down. They can't put you on a flush, set or two pair you haven't made yet. And if they do, you didn't even have to see the turn and river. On the other hand, you call it down, you save yourself some chips, but if you hit your hand it might make it easier for your opponent to lay it down.
