Here is the proposed formulas for determining the FPL Player of the Year.
25pts for 1st place in league ( 1pt for 25th place)
18pts for 1st place in TOC (1pt for 18th place)
9pts for 1st place in wed league game (1 pt for 9th place) _________________ I want to thank you girl

Sounds GREAT Des. I love it! Yet another feature to keep the competition hot and the interest high. Your points formula looks absolutely perfect.
This is exactly the sort of thing needed to keep everyone playing strong at the end of the month to climb into the top 25 to earn points. It has sort of a NASCAR thing to it!
Only problem I see is that I stink at the Wed Omaha tourneys and won't be earning many points there. But I have a new excuse for my problems on Wed. nights and will reveal it when my current excuse wears out. |

Great idea... and I'm glad there are some points for those Wednesdays... I have to gather them up somehow.
So, TBlaze has won 2 League Months... man, that's a lot of Wednesdays.
T.... after reading an interesting article in CardPlayer about Tourny Payouts needing more of a top end ramp in pay out to change some play... I think the approach to points might be a good idea too... Something to consider, though this ramp may be too extreme.
League 25, 15, 10, 8, 6 and 5 - 1 for 6 - 10
TOC 18, 11, 7-1 for 3 - 9
Wed: 9 - 1 is probably good... final table gets a reward.
Anyone have an opinion on this little recomendation? _________________ Masters Student - Omaha Hi/Low

Sorry MainStick, but I prefer Des' point system. It seems to better reward consistency. For instance, Dan Harrington's back to back WSOP final table appearances are considered one of the greatest accomplishments in poker. He's consistent.
Player of the Year should reward the most consistent player. It appears to me that Des' point system will do that well. Working hard and finishing second in any event should not have a severe point drop off when earning player of the year points.
Granted, I haven't read the article to which you refer. So perhaps I'm missing something. |

Krakoose,
I would agree that it would reward Dan "the man" Harrington type results, just wanted to throw out an alternative for suggestion.
The article itself is more relative to individual tournaments than long term league play. (I would be curious to know how the WSOP player points were set up that gave Daniel Negreanu to be top dog). Card player Mag does the same thing for player of the year, but they use a real wild system to compute points that would be diffficult to reproduce here.
Anyway, Love the idea either way it's computed. _________________ Masters Student - Omaha Hi/Low

TY Des, couldn't do it without you.
Gald you like it Krak.
MS-check out this link http://www.cardplayer.com/player_of_the_year/poycriteria.php
I think you will find what you are looking for.
Any objection to the criteria before we begin tabulating the scores?
Keep in mind, we can review this formula each year for potential changes.

That was my post above as a Guest. I wasn't logged in apparently.
I have my calculator ready to help with the tabulations. |

A new point structure has been proposed.
The old formula is:
25pts for 1st place in league ( 1pt for 25th place)
18pts for 1st place in TOC (1pt for 18th place)
9pts for 1st place in wed league game (1 pt for 9th place)
The propose formula is:
50pts for 1st place in league ( 1pt for 50th place)
or 36pts for 1st place in league
18pts for 1st place in TOC (1pt for 18th place)
9pts for 1st place in wed league game (1 pt for 9th place)
I will leave my opinion out for the time being and see how everyone responds. Perhaps the proposer can share why he proposes what he proposes. |

I agree with the mystery person who proposed this idea. We all toil through up to 30 tourneys during the month in a Season Championship, investing hours and hours. For this the winner gets only 25 points. Meanwhile, in one single Monthly Final tourney, the winner gets 18 points, which isn't much less than 25.
The winner of the Season Championship needs more than 25 points, therefore I favor expanding these points to 36.
Currently Wed winner gets 9 and Monthly Final winner doubles that with 18. If you double the 18, the Season Champion could then get 36. Then it would be a nice doubling effect for the growing importance of each, 9, 18 and 36. This would then give points to top 9, top 18 and top 36 in each.
I know top 50 in Season Championship make it to Monthly Final, but the reward for the 37th to 50th finisher in Season Championship is that they make the Monthly Final where they can earn points if make top 18.
Though I like expanding to 36, I would go with expanding to 50 points if others would prefer that for Season Championship. |

I like the progression of the 9/18/36 idea.
We do have to put a lot more effort and time into playing all those events... well some of us who get to play all those events get to put the time in, the rest of us need sleep occasionally... and we just sweat out the other events.
